Using google features to improve the speed at which googlebot index your site

Not too sure whether this is true.
Features like google analytics, google homepage, google toolbar or even google adsense, will using them help your site by forcing google to index your site more often ?

Nothing is going to force Google to index your site more frequently. What you can do is make your site more efficient to crawl by using the sitemaps and blocking non-content pages. Google webmaster guidelines offers some good tips.

hmm have had luck

I wouldn't say using there tools forces them to index your site any faster, but from past experience (no proof of futrure perf.) it gives them somewhere to start from - google sitemaps etc.

The big thing about using the tools is you can see the benfits (or -ve) of changes fairly quickly, makes it really easy to tune the site to your goal.

Links are still the most important, my current client just got a PR5 link from a ig UK/web recruitment site, and we are now seeing up to 200-300 hits from googlebot a day! (not all good though see my post - http://www.v7n.com/forums/google-for...-pagerank.html ).

cheers

If one can get quality links, that is certainly the best

Still, even if you just have some/many medicore incoming links,
generator/"]XML sitemaps[/url] may help.

Google tools and pay per clicks did not help the bots to search my site any faster. Links seem to be the key.

Google webmasters guidelines are especially useful when you are just about to launch your website because you already are aware about the factors Google likes and the ones it doesn't.

Does having Adsense active when googlebot first finds it slow the indexing down. I heard somewhere that these sites are sandboxed as 'made for adsense' sites.

I doubt google would ever penalise made for adsense sites as google is earning a fourtune from them. If someone clicks on an adsense add and goes to a made for adsense website where the only thing for a user to do is click an adsense add then google is earning quite well.

I would have thought that using adsense & adwords together on the same site would make google very happy with you.

As long as you are building quality inbound links to relevant sites then the Googlebots will come. Google visits several of my sites almost everyday because of my links created by Article distribution and posting in high traffic forums of relevance.

I've kept the adsense off so far and my site was indexed fairly quickly - in the index in about 3 months. What is the average time? It doesn't get indexed very regularly 8th November was the last visit from Googlebot - is this just because the site is (fairly) new?

I use google webmaster tools and it works fine for me. It isn't meant to help you get indexed faster or more often but to make it easier to crawl

Get a Google Site Map properly built, and get your site verified.
Ensure you refresh, or update content regularly [ no less than once a week ]
Add new relevant pages wherever possible.
Grow good, targeted, keyword rich content.
