Do you have a speculation about when Google will update?
  • Do you think there has been a backlinks update?
  • Do you think there has been a PR update?
  • Are you seeing Google fluctuations?
  • Do you think there has been an algorithm update?

Google Update Jan 5/16 ?

Have you noticed anything that indicates an update in the last couple of days?
Quote:
There is some buzz around the community that there may have been a Google update, specifically a Penguin update, yesterday. It really seems to all stem from this post by Accuranker which shows a spike in their tracking tools.

But I can say, the SEO community seems too quiet, at least this morning, for there to be a Penguin update going on...

Both the video (2010) and the article (2005) are old and propably outdated. Of course still today google heads towards the same direction, but I am not sure today google visits websites in a "clockwork" style as Matt says in the video. One thing for example that has changed, is the way google measures and takes in account social signals, and there are many more other factors that google weights in order to decide your pagerank.

Also, the official pagerank has not been updated for many websites for many many months.

I have websites that i started before two and a half years, and they are pagerank -

PageRank is updated for web pages, not websites. And, it's still being updated every day. It's the TBPR that is not updated, and has not been updated since late in 2013.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank

PageRank is an algorithm used by Google Search to rank websites in their search engine results. PageRank was named after Larry Page,[1] one of the founders of Google. PageRank is a way of measuring the importance of website pages. According to Google:

PageRank works by counting the number and quality of links to a page to determine a rough estimate of how important the website is. The underlying assumption is that more important websites are likely to receive more links from other websites.[2]

Here says that pagerank is a value assigned to websites, not pages.

I think you are talking about Page Authority, not Page Rank.

They rank website pages, and return the page that most suits the "search".

Google Testing New Search Ranking Algorithms In The Wild?

Quote:
There has been this steady chatter for the past few days around webmasters and SEOs seeing ranking changes and fluctuations in the search results. It's been ever since what I thought were false reports of a Google update earlier this week.

The chatter has not died down but it is still what I would consider to be light chatter.

It might be Google is testing Penguin or some other ranking algorithm change in the search results on a subset of users. And when they are testing it, some users are seeing it and when they come back, the test might not be running. So their rankings jump up or drop down and then it goes back to where it was, like you'd see with any test.

The various tools are seeing it also, at least some.

Massive Google Fluctuations Continue; Is It Penguin?

Quote:
I rarely post about Google updates over the weekend, in fact, the last time I posted on a weekend was when Penguin 3.0 launched on or around October 17, 2014. Well, I am not saying what we are seeing is Penguin 4.0 but I am saying the forum chatter and signals are all still at their peak this weekend.

Google Panda Is Now Part Of Google's Core Ranking Algorithm

Quote:
...Google's Panda algorithm is now part of the core ranking algorithm. Jennifer Slegg has an official statement from Google that reads:
Quote:
Panda is an algorithm thatís applied to sites overall and has become one of our core ranking signals. It measures the quality of a site, which you can read more about in our guidelines. Panda allows Google to take quality into account and adjust ranking accordingly.

Weekend's Core Update Didn't Have Panda In It

Quote:
So those of you who thought that since the core algorithm update this weekend ran and was confirmed and since Panda is part of the core algorithm that some Panda sites may have seen their Panda penalties go away.

That is not true.

Gary Illyes from Google said the core update that ran this weekend had no Panda or any other animals in it.

Extreme Google Search Fluctuations Continue; Not Penguin But Core Update

Quote:
...we are seeing higher fluctuations over this past weekend.

The forums and social media are a mess with weekend chatter. The automated tools that track the fluctuations are also a mess. But Google's Gary Illyes and John Mueller were responding to such chatter over the weekend saying, or implying, it was not Penguin.

Gary Illyes said on Twitter, ""no" to the original question (to the best of my knowledge anyway). " The original question was "Google testing or #penguinupdate?" So no....

...Update: Gary Illyes said on Twitter Monday morning it is a core algorithm update, as he suspected yesterday:
