Do you have a speculation about when Google will update?
  • Do you think there has been a backlinks update?
  • Do you think there has been a PR update?
  • Are you seeing Google fluctuations?
  • Do you think there has been an algorithm update?

You may want to start with a basic understanding about Google updates before posting in this thread.

No More Deceptive Download Buttons

This will affect those who use deceptive embedded content:
Quote:
...Today, we’re expanding Safe Browsing protection to protect you from such deceptive embedded content, like social engineering ads.

Consistent with the social engineering policy we announced in November, embedded content (like ads) on a web page will be considered social engineering when they either:

•Pretend to act, or look and feel, like a trusted entity — like your own device or browser, or the website itself.
•Try to trick you into doing something you’d only do for a trusted entity — like sharing a password or calling tech support.

Google Mobile Algorithm Tests Underway?

Quote:
On Friday, Dr. Pete Meyers, the man behind Mozcast said on Twitter that his tool picked up significant ranking changes in the mobile search results. He said "URLs on page one jumped from 80.9% to 88.7%." That is very big but within 24 hours, everything went back to normal he said the day after.

Google: We Aren't Going To Provide SEO Certification

Quote:
While most SEOs want SEO certification by a formal and trusted organization, Google won't be the one providing it.

Google's Gary Illyes said in a interview yesterday with Eric Enge of Stone Temple Consulting that Google will not provide SEO certification like they do for AdWords and other partners. Gary said while there are many good reasons to provide it, there are way more bad reasons not to. He added that they discussed this "a lot" internally and the conclusion was no, no SEO certification.

Google Penguin 4.0 Still On Target For Q1? I Don't Know Says Google

Quote:
For those wondering when Google will release Penguin 4.0, well - I don't have any new information for you. We expected it in 2015 and the holidays delayed it to 2016 but January came and past. So now we expect it in Q1 2016 but will that happen?

Gary Illyes from Google said on Twitter over the weekend that he simply doesn't know. He said "I haven't talked to the engineers for some time [about Penguin], I don't know."

Google: Our JavaScript & AJAX Crawl Is On & Off

Quote:
...

John Mueller in a Google Hangout on Google+ this past Friday answered a question around possibly using that as a way to hide content from Google. To hide links or content that you do not want Google to index in AJAX or JavaScript. This is what webmasters did years and years ago when Google was not able to crawl JavaScript.

But now, it is probably not recommended. Google can index most of it, and of course, it doesn't always get it right.

John Mueller said at the 14:10 mark into the video that it can be "on and off" for Google crawling and understanding JavaScript and AJAX. He said don't rely on blocking Google based on that and also, don't rely on Google indexing content there as well. Make sure you control what you can by really blocking Google from it or making it super accessible for Google to access it - depending on if you want the content indexed or not....

Google Changes Penguin Messaging To "As Soon As It Is Ready"

Quote:
All this back and forth on when Google will launch Penguin 4.0 is getting to everyone. Will it be Q1, why wasn't it in January or in 2015?

Google had enough - instead of giving projections, Google is now going with the line, "as soon as it is ready" we will launch Penguin.

Report: 15% Drop In Review Snippets In Google Search Results Yesterday

Quote:
The Mozcast Features report shows a 14.5% drop in the reviews snippets showing up in Google over the past day compared to the day prior. This is a massive drop compared to the stability is has shown over the past several months...

...Just the other day, Google did say they try not to clutter the results with rich snippets but I doubt this is related to that...

Google Sets 10 Monthly Multiple URLs Crawl Quota Due to Abuse

Quote:
Earlier this month, Google added a captcha to their crawl and submit to index feature in the Google Search Console's Fetch as Google tool. Now, Google has set a quota to how many times you can use the "multiple URLs" submission method in that tool to 10 per month.

Google's John Mueller said on Twitter that this quota is only "temporary" and was due to abuse. It is unclear for how long Google will have to keep this quote, the single URL method has a 500 per month quota, as opposed to a 10 per month quota.

Google Confirms Four Ads At The Top & Removing Right Side Ads

Quote:
Google has been testing four AdWords ads since 2006 and recently stepped up those tests in late 2015. Now, according to Search Engine Land, Google has confirmed that they are switching over from showing ads on the right side to having four ads at the top.

Google will no longer show ads to the right of its search results, instead it will show four ads at the top with two exceptions. Google will show PLAs (Product Listing Ads) and ads in the knowledge graph on the right hand side.

Google: No, We Don't Have An SEO Partner Program

Quote:
We reported that Google has mixed messaging around having an SEO Google Partner program. A week or so ago, Google said that they do not offer SEO certification but then shortly after that, Google posted a page saying they have an SEO partner program.

Well, yesterday afternoon, Google changed the page to confirm they do not have an SEO partner program.

Google Panda Continuous Update But Gets Prepared Between Roll Outs?

Quote:
Today is the 5th anniversary of the Google Panda update, which touched down on February 24, 2011. Yesterday, John Mueller of Google answered another question on Panda, and his answer I found interesting...
Quote:
So from what I am aware of, the Panda algorithm is rolling more or less continuously, in the sense that one update rolls out and the next update gets prepared and starts rolling out as well. So it is not that you’d see this kind of discrete point in time where you say well this was that update and that was the next update. It kind of rolling continuously. So from there, it does;’t really make sense to look at specific dates.

Google: AMP Not A Ranking Signal Yet

Quote:
...Google launched AMP in the mobile search results this week.

Back in December, Google said AMP might become a ranking signal but that is currently not the case.

John Mueller of Google said today in a Google+ hangout that AMP is currently not a ranking signal by itself...
