Difference Between Name Hits and Link Hits

When I google my site name, I get some 25,000 hits. However, when I google link: with my site address, I only get 160 hits. Why is that? Does it effect my page rank, being that google is link-oriented? If so, what can I do?

If you Google your site name, any pages that refer to your site will come up. This can be a lot if your site name is comprised of common words. Also, most directory listings would come up.

Oseymour's suggestion is the proper method to see the number of pages from your site in the Google index.
