Thumbs up Google and PHPLD

Hi, i was wondering what will happen with Google and the recent boom of the Php Link Directories (PHPLD). Google claims that they dont like repeated sites and content. What happens with those category dumps for this script. Directories are starting to look the same because they all have the same templates and categories. The only thing that changes is the domain name. Google seems to be okay with them and alexa seems to like them (i started a directory and passed from 4.000.000 to 300.000 in 15 days) but what will happen in the near future? I mean thousands of directories with the same content (categories, templates and even links).
I know how hard it is to create 1000 categories one by one but i really believe that it will pay off in the future to have original content. Ive submited my site to many directories and it seems to be everytime the same. The structures are exactly the same so its like an automatic thing to select the "appropiate category" for my link.

What do you think about this?

If you were to make a directory, would you spend some effort in a custom made category structure and template or will you just copy paste the structure and choose a ready made template?

I have myself a phpld template and category dumps site because its on but im making a custom made directory and paying for a custom made template as well for a new directory.

Google also looks at the user behavior of a site.
phpLD sites are being visited often, and often have good repeat visitors. Granted that often many of those visits are from webmasters, the behavior is still good, and for that reason, these sites are valuable to people. Google measures user behavior too, not just content, and phpLD does pretty well on content.

On the other hand, there are lots of directories out there with unique content. Everyone focuses on the general directories and says they are all the same, but I would say that general directories make up only 50% of the phpLD installations.

For those people running general directories, I would advise them to focus on:
1) Unique categorie structure
2) Adding quality links. Don't just wait for links to come to you
3) Adding addtional featues to the directory such as a blog

you should be careful of using the directory import scripts. If you create your own directory and content you should be fine.

My directory is listed #3 in google for my top keyword and its only been 3 months since I started.

cheers

Google will not ban a site which has similar contents to another website at least.

If I want to start a directory, I will use the phpld template. Why we shall spend a lot of time and effort to build another one which is worse than phpld?

thats right but you may just not get listed as well as if you do your own cats and content. The direrctory iteself is pretty good. Some bugs on the back end still but hopefully the version fixes this.

If you have similar (the same) content you will find yourself in the Supplemental Results.

If you are serious then the idea is to build a better one of course, how can you compete if you have exactly the same product??

This is your philosophy: "Why spend a lot of time, when you can have a MEDIOCRE product?"
