How Google decide rankings

I have a question in my mind, that does google rankings only works on backlinks system? or its just part of the ranking system!
If I get a high authority do follow backlink will it boost my rankings in any places?

Google's algorithm use hundreds of different parameters to decide rankings. However they started the algo with backlinks and it's still one of the most important parameters, another parameter and I think the most important one is relevancy, the more relevant your site to the keyword been searched the bigger chance you'll get a high ranking.

Google still uses backlinks as a strong signal in it's search algo, and to calculate PageRank (something that's alive and well, albeit we don't see it any longer). But don't discount content and on-page effects as factors.

Everywhere I read (reputable sites only) content is described as a very strong signal in G's ranking algo today. Why? Well, because you could have great links pointing back to your site, but if the content is crappy that would list sites of poor substance on G's SERPs - something Google doesn't like.

Just remember - if you remember that everything you do for your site should surround the user experience, you are on the right track. Getting some traffic there is also a good idea as well. But, whatever you do, don't gamble the farm on just getting backlinks.

Definitely. Do follow backlinks allows Google to reach our websites which ultimately improve page rank.

Not so. Not all links are created equal. Even links without the "nofollow" attribute (the type of link everyone incorrectly calls "dofollow") could be neutral, or even crappy. In the case of neutral, those links would be little to no help at all. If they are crappy links, well, you could suffer ranking issues.

So, if anyone here tries to "build" links - that would be against Goofles guidelines.

If anyone here tries to sculpt links (trying to get more links without the "nofollow" attribute), Goofle will notice that too.

So, do you understand what direction to take now?

google decide actually on your keyword, and on your post quality, they look for your activities as well and copyright content.

if everything is going well, they would surely appreciate you by increasing rank and traffic

There are literally hundreds of ranking factors. Do you know of there being a specific "quality" formulation/calculation factor? I'm aware of google trying their best to determine how quality should be assessed, but beyond that I'm sure there are a dozen or more ranking signals that together may make up what you are stating as quality. What also do you mean by "activities"?

Care to point to where Google states domain expiry is one of their main algo signals? I've read where certain SEOs contemplate that domain renewals for extended years "may be" something that Google may use, but even if it is valid, it is probably way down the ladder. Because if it were a strong signal, wouldn't everyone and their brother renew for 5 or 10 years?

I can share stuff too. Domain length and expiry as ranking factors are Myths.

Right from John Mueller's mouth:

Quote:
It seems that Google has finally gone on the record that longer domain name registration has no impact on your search engine rankings, at least not at Google. A Google Webmaster Help thread has a post from Googler, JohnMu, who said outright that it doesn't make sense for Google to use this as a ranking metric.
Source: Search Engine Round Table

There are other sites that have their own take on this, and the generalities of the various points of view are speculative, at best. To me, that means that even it is a ranking signal, it's a small one at best.

In other words, I'm not going to change my registration/renewal methods based on subjective references.

The main factors of modern SEO are relevance, content, and backlinks. How relevant you are to a particular niche is highly influential on your rankings. How much your content pertains to the niche is as well, and your backlinks work best if they are niche-relevant as well.

There are other factors but for a long time those three have been the most important

There is no exact answer to this question because no one knows the algorithm on the basis of which Search Engines rank each website. Every search engine has deviced some kind of algorithm which helps them to crawl the entire web and index every new URL in their database that comes into existence. There are hundreds of parameters which Google or other search engines using. Some of them are below:

Indexing & crawling
Quality of content
Quality of Backlinks
Domain Authority of website
CTR
Site speed
Mobile friendliness
Bounce Rate of website
Length of Content
LSI Keywords / Keyword Density in content

Google decides website rank by checking all the SEO off-page and on-page work. Your website must have implemented by SEO on-page task and should be having good SEO backlinks (off-page).

What about comparison to all other pages indexed and vying for positioning in a given industry/category? Wouldn't all those other pages affect each other's rankings?
