Yes, forum signatures are also counted as backlinks, you can see it when you search Google using the link command.

Forum signatures can act as an additional backlink for SEs.
Thanks, top ranking forums may help building backlinks using a forum signature

This very much depends on the forum that they are on. A forum that is established and has good SEO will be visible in the backlinks when you use the google feature.
This is easy to show, just have a look at the backlinks for this domain;
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...c-ministry.net
(or any other domain owned by long time members at these boards)
Forum signature links are just as good as any other links, the benefits are;
- Anchor text count
- Link popularity
- Traffic
- PR (yes, not much, but they do count a little, I've seen sites with a PR3 from only signature links, at only ONE forum)
Example for the latter, my domain, digidopaganda.com (In my sig)
http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourc...ganda%2ecom%2f
That domain is not being promoted whatsoever, the only link to it is in my signature on these boards, and it has PR3.

I agree forum sigs will be visible as backlinks. Check Yahoo and you'll probably see them all. But just because they show in a backlink check doesn't mean they have a great effect on how well a page or site ranks.
I agree that they will help with every thing you mention, but I'd still consider sig links low on the overall quality scale for a link. One link from an trusted authority site that's related to your topic will probably have more positive effect than hundreds of sig links.

yes, a properbly tag link is counted as a back link. i view the search result before, and signature is quit significant in keyword ranking.

True in a sense that forum signatures are considered as backlinks.
But only and only if you associate it with a certain keyword phrase
or that you already have a targetted keyword you want to rank and
link back.
Normally, thats what a persn misses out but don't just take my word
for it. Test it out and see if this works for you. It sure works for me

Charles how do you know signature links are significant in keyword ranking? I think they count and help, but I doubt they are significant.
Vern I agree you want to use anchor text though it's probably a good idea to mix your anchor text at different forums so all aren't exactly the same. I think they'd still count as a backlink no matter what anchor text you use, but you might as well take advantage of using keywords in the anchor text.

It can be helpful at times, sometimes if you use the "link:" command, sgnatures in links can be seen in your search results

True, but just because something shows up for a link: search doesn't mean it carries much weight in the algorithm.
I think the main value in sig links is in the direct traffic they can bring. You do need to make quality posts though if you want the direct traffic. If people find what you say useful on a forum they will check out the sites in your sig.
Forum sigs can also be used to build up a large quantity of low quality links. If that's typical of the link profiles in your industry then it's probably not a bad idea to have a number of forum sig links.

I fully agree with this statement. You have to stay committed so that people will see that you are being serious about the forum. Otherwise if you post and bounce, you're just another spammer

Forum links of course help you with SERP's since the links are counted towards your backlinks.
Also you will get much needed traffic from forum signatures which is vital for the success.

Most links count as backlinks, the ones on this forum most certainly DO.
