Some tips you might don't know.
Very important factor is Google TrustRank.
1. google check Whois. Register your domain for min. 10 years. Google don't trust when domain registered only for 1 year.
2. Contact information and privacy page! It is very important to have names, e-mail, adress, phone, fax on your contact page. Google trust this sites more.
3. Use only unique contest.
4. Try to apply for all top programs and awards.

Those are all helpful things I'm sure, but the most important way to get trust is to get links from authority sites.

Getting a domain for minimum 10 years...oops..i didn't know that...well what wins the trust of google is good quality related links...

10 years is very lonh time you don`t have to own very old domain to get the trust.
In my openion you just want 1 year to get the full trust and your site have to be stable just increasing the content but don`t delete the old.

I made a mistake in my site which is since 2002 and I`m sure the is sandboxed now.

I also agree that 10 years too much. After 7 years you may find that you don't want the site you're marketing.

if you want to compare with yahoo (17years), msn (20 years), google (14 years) you may try to register your domain for 17 years
(the average of the three)

okay, but what if you have 30+ sites to be promoted in near future ?

Again... it doesn't mean anything, you can buy domain name for 100 years, and your positions will be the same. Google TrustRank more to understand how to count outgoing links. So, if your site has 10 years registration, site you link will get better credit.

As Aviva says, by far the most important measure of trust is the sites that link to your site - everything else is trivial by comparison.
