Page rank increased but ranking gone!

Today noticed that on my site the PR has increased to 5 but yet all my rankings have gone rapidly downhill?

Is this just a case of wait a few days and see what happens or is there another explanation?

The answer is that PR has very little to do with where you rank in the SERPs. This has been discussed to death on other threads in this forum. It is the relevance of your links not PR that is most influential in placing you in the SERP.

That why all this PR paranoia is such a waste of time.

Check your anchor text. Make sure you have links from sites with information relevant to your own site. That's what really matters.

How much PR contributes to a page's ranking nowadays is quite unknown. However, as bob pointed out, it's certainly not the Holy Grail that it used to be regarded as.

The jump to PR6 helped me out with my rankings. But don't rely on higher PR to get you higher rankings. Just get good keywords and good linkage!

I never put any emphasis on PR. I have no PR at all and am in the top 10 on google for terms with density of 600,000 results. So dont sweat the PR. build backlinks, and focus on GOOD copy and backlinks.

Cheers.

PR, really, has become a badge more than anything else.

For example, "SEO-guy" has really tried to hammer home with the keyword "SEO" on his site and his anchor text, and has amassed a PR8 thorugh extensive paid text link advertising. Yet he is *not* ranked top for the keyword "SEO". In fact, after the Google page, he's beaten by 2xPR6 and 1xPR7 (in that order).

That's got to tell you something.

Well Brian if you recall I have been preaching content for a very long time. I am not preaching it as the single piece of the pie, but ONE piece of the pie, an important piece.

You can have a PR of 8 but thats not doing you squat if your site is not relevant. My site has a PR of 0 and is in the top 10 for my graphic design and webdesign terms that have 400,000 to 600,000 serp results.

You have disagreed with me on other threads, referring to copy and content as not professional, as you recall I got my panties in a knot and debated it with you.

I meant that a Professional SEO should be offering clients much more than Content SEO.

I personally really value Content SEO - but for a Profesisonal SEO it alone should never be enough. A graphic designer who offers content SEO is offering something most other designers cannot, but a SEO who offers only Content SEO is offering something far less than Professional SEO's should.

Okay, that's cleared that one up.

(Note to diary - plan evil misuse of technical terms to cause future confusion of emancipator. )
