If your domain name and content and domain name does not change then nothing should be affected by the transfer.

Can you tell me why you are transfering from 1 and 1? I have a web design client who wants to host their site on 1 and 1 because t is so cheap.

I'm interested in your experience.

the main reason for it is their technical support. every time i phone for help the operators are unhelpful and miserable.

also, (this is the part that I don't know a lot about) I was told their servers are based in Germany and when I search in Google.de for sites based in Germany i rank highly so by going to fasthosts (who i have been recommended by) they are based in the uk so in theory for the uk, my ranking should increase.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire!!!

Forget both - neither is a reputable company - just big and aggressively marketed.

Try somewhere else - for UK sites I use www.united-hosting.co.uk but there are certainly other choices. Ask in WebHostingTalk.com if you'd like wider recommendations on UK webhosting providers.

As for rankings - shouldn't be affected.

I don't think it will affect your google ranking.

I have noticed that US hosted sites get higher in the US google ranks and European hosted sites get higher in the European Googles, I don't know if it is completely proven though.

I'd recommend http://www.pipeten.com/ for UK hosting.

I'd definitely not go with Fasthosts, I used to use them and their servers were so slow or overly loaded I just used to get timeout errors on my simple asp/access site. I was so glad when my years hosting ended.

Nope.

And neither am I the New Zealand writer who dominates the SERPs for that name.
