Adwords Lesson Learned
Just wanted to let people know the danger of putting out an Adwords too quickly and not monitoring the results. I had found a very good niche topic and had some affiliate links. I did my Adwords research and found some keyword phrases that had no competition. Well, thinking this was nothing I threw up an Adwords ad only in the content search area, went to the store and at lunch decided to check my stats. YIKES! In 2 hours I had 919,000 views and 600 hits costing me $60 (with no revenue from the affiliates).
My miss here was that I forgot that my campaign setting was set to $200/day from an older ad that did nothing over a year ago.
Lessons:
1. Keyword phrase research - you can see it payed off but not in the way I wanted. With no competition in AdWords your ad gets blasted out to many Adsense sites.
2. Limit your compaign max to a low number to see your stats especially if your topic area is very popular.
3. Don't walk away unless you've verified your stats- if I had left it untouched for 8 hours I would have been out $200 - maybe even faster.
Anyone else have Adwords best practices or stories to tell?
