PR vs search results

I have been watching our PR for the last month or so (waiting for G update), domain went from 0 to 3, and most pages up from 0 to 2. We were really happy with that (thanks to everyone who has helped out there).

However we have seen our search results on google (UK) drop on average 30 places for some of our key search terms.

So as I see it (flame me if I am miles off);

our site (visalogic.net domain purchased in March 06) so had a PR0, we built backlinks to strong sites (couple of PR4) and we rose up the search results for our targeted keywords. Google come along to see the hard work we have put in . And thinks to its many brains that we are worthy of a higher PR (YAY), thus to make sure we keep up the hard work it compares our site to the other PR3 sites and sees we are not as strong compared to them and drops our search results.
So to make it to the next level of PR we need to do (exponentially) more work etc etc etc?

Seems like a logical idea, not sure if google is logical though.

If you want top listings, PR value is not the most important factor. Do some generic searches and see the PR values of those sites that rank at the top. You can easily find a lot of top ranked sites have very low PR value, or even PR0.

From my experience, if you want top rankings, pay more attention to the keywords in your title, content and the anchor text of backlinks.

PR has no relationship with ranking, both are affected by backlinks. To rank better in google, keywords, backlinks, are the 2 most important factors, while PR is mainly affected by backlink.
