Google Changed the Look of Local Results, Did You Notice?

I think this is new for today. Google is diplaying the Top 3 Local Results differently. Check it out...

The new look for a local result displays the top 3 Google local results and a map to the business address along with a website listing next to the map. A rather nice piece of real estate to have on a SERP if you're looking to be seen in local results. One more reason to get your business listed with Google local if you haven't already done so.

I have to admit I like the new look. I suppose if I was looking for something this new look is more helpful. But from an SEO stance I don't like how it pushes the organic results further down the page.

Im not too stoked on this... I have a great spot on the organics for Portland too, but actually my zip code is just outside of Portland (Gresham).

It bumps me down to the first position BELOW the ZIP approved local business.

Not that stoked - I would normally get a lot of visitors from Portland - being on the Web means I can do it from anywhere. Portland is my next biggest city. I have to market towards Portland or I will not get too many visitors looking for Gresham + Graphic + Design...

On another note *** I really do like the added bonus for those who actually live and work there.

prolly not, but damn thats a lot of change - the iNET never stops growing. With google and Yahoo providing more services and APIs for the populous we are starting to see how fast we have to catch up and run with the new protocol... It took me a long time to comprehend what I know right now about web standards and search engine visibility, it is almost daunting to know just how much I still have yet to soak in and learn.

Don't get me wrong - I love it. I think its awesome. It only validates how important an SEO expert is in this growing market place. Its like a CPA - they just sort know the ins and outs of whats happening and how to get you up to pace in the business world.

Its not just about organic and PPC listings - its local, news, RSS, Blogs, links, Real estate, local, cross browser compatibility from palm pilots to wall mounted theater systems.

Damn this gets me juiced.

It is great, but it is not like top 3 results. It is companies which are close... Top 10 still the same.

I have a question, company i promote #1 with many keywords but they are not on the map. How to add my company on this map?

Just apply for it! - google makes it easy for you to apply - but it is a process that takes time.

Click the link at the bottom.

Then apply for it... Wait 2 weeks till the mail gets to your business location. Open it up - go back to Google Local and Authenticate your Listing.

You will then be in line for the next UPDATE which varies - but is about every month.

I've found that you can manipulate the title of your business in Google local to show up for searches you might otherwise not show up for.
