Im by know means a pro. at this subject, but i believe our directories are like a power box.
The strengh of content to your site pre. determines the amount of power that you have to push your site to be seen in the searches under the key words in your directory.
I also believe there are too many sites with amazing content in the search engines today, and millions being built every yr. Its very tough for sites these days to obtaine positioning, because of the amount of solid content sites on the board today, and the popularity of the internet growing at a ratical pace.
(SOMEONE CAME UP WITH THE WORD SAND BOX) For the sites with weaker content that had a harder time being picked up in the searches.
This is my theory ( not a sure statement)

Getting out the sandbox is not just easy it takes 3 to 6 months to getting out.. another one maybe your site is quite new, i suggest you to continue your optimization to your keywords. by the way how do you find out that your still in sandbox?

The ageing delay
Ar3d- I am almost positive I am in the sandbowx because number 1 my web site is only 3 months old and I am very competetive (1st page in Google) for less direct key phrases but not competeive for more general key phrases. For example I am in the top 5 for 2008 NFL Draft but not in the top 100 for 2008 NFL Mock Draft.
rankland-Being sandboxed has nothing to do with page strength in my opinion, you could have strong page rank but still suffer an ageing delay penalty. I have a tool bar page strength of 4 but don't do well in Google.

I am #1 serp in one key word or another in every search, but im not basing my theory on what some one said im basing the theory on whats working for me.
I havnt lost position in one yr., and my site is only a yr 1/2 old... ive just added key words to the searches.

Patience
I am happy for you Rankland. So your site is 1 1/2 years old. When did you notice you were starting to break out of the sandbox (trust box)?

I started about 2mo. in local and regional directory in msn. i became #1 serp, and shotly after, yahoo , google, alta vista, hot bot and so on.
I started putting my key words in sites i was in , and my site showed #1.
Than i started putting in key words and shortening up the stript and i was showing up #1 or 1st to 3d page in the searches.

Great
That's great rankland I am proud of you, but you didn't answer my question. From what you told me your site is 18 months old, when did you come out of the sandbox? What time frame?

Do you guys think the ageing delay penalty will eventually be "scaled back" in order to give some of the newer sites a chance?

Its time ,and patience......when it happens though you feel like #1 in the world in your key words its a great feeling, and well worth the wait.

It is not a myth...It is filter made by GOOGLE for new and old sites.....
What is the Google Sandbox?
The Google Sandbox is an alleged filter placed on new websites. The result is that a site does not receive good rankings for its most important keywords and keyword phrases. Even with good content, abundant incoming links and strong Google PageRank, a site is still adversely affected by the Sandbox effect. The Sandbox acts as a de facto probation for sites, possibly to discourage spam sites from rising quickly, getting banned, and repeating the process.
The Google Sandbox is very similar to a new website being placed on probation, and kept lower than expected in searches, prior to being given full value for its incoming links and content. Doing a search for allinanchor:"keyword" is the best way to tell, whether the site is sandboxed or not.... quoted from source

Snadbox like a polico officer who pull over drivers for speeding. Google just let you to relax for couple weeks, month.
Sandbox exist and accourding one member... he can place competitor keyword on top 10 in several days. Yes! it is easy! If you target keyword "online casino"... you can build hundereds links and it will be OK because you competitors build the same ammount of links. But if you build hundereds links with anchor "Cheap rental cars in Quincy, MA"... Google send you to sandbox because you build 1000% more links than your competitors and Google understand that it is impossible unless 911 terrorists was renting car from you.
Google use a lot of statystic and keep the same speed for all competitors.
Other thing... you only one who got pictures of nude celebrity and your site / blog got 1 000 000 backlinks in one night. Google will never send you in sandbox because 50% of this backlinks will be more than quality (Digg, BBC, CNN, Yahoo News, Newspapers, Magazines, and other popular media and gossip sites).

I too have a site with around twenty links, but when I use the Links: option to search for my site, Google says that there are no links to my site.
Been like it for around 3 months - I hope it's not going to last too much longer before these links are counted.

What is the soonest time you guys have seen a site come out of the sand box. Can you do anything to shorten the time of the ageing delay?

Yea the sand box is real and Yahoo also plays that game. I was just trying to find out if any future Google updates would shorten the sand box time frame. Of course it would only be speculation, but what do you experts think about the sand box as Google and Yahoo move forward?

I believe the earliest you would be able with solid content would be 3mo. at the earliest, and 6mo. on an average.
patience is important, and the best way to see good results is to know your site like a family member when submitting it.

Well I am right at 3 months now and it seems like I am ranking much better in yahoo. Still no improvement in Google. Could it be that Yahoo has a shorter ageing delay penalty?
