Need help. Only 25% pages indexed.

My friend site have only 30 000 pages indexed from 177 000. How to index rest of them?

I think the answer is simple: lots and lots of trusted links.

177,000 is a heck of a lot of pages. That's why you'll need so many links.

(Also, make sure there's not much duplicate content).

I would suggest sitemap submission, but I think it is already done. So I put my vote on trusted deep links for the critical parts of the site.

It is my friend website which i help to promote, it is his life work with collection of 40 000 classic songs and biography of more than 1000 artists. This site online for 3 years and got bunch links from .edu sites, libruaries, schools, colleges, Wikipedia.... Even "New York Times" link that site and wrote whole article on their pages.
It used to be 100 000 pages indexed and pr5 with 5000 daily visitors

Now it has only pr4, 30 000 pages indexed and only 1500 daily visitors........

Site never has any SEO promotion or something and got all links natural in past 3 years. Many links appeared over night when "NY Times" wrote article and millions people read about this site 2 years ago.
What else can i say.
I can drop url as example:
http://www.everynote.com/piano.solo.show.note if you click letters, you will see that bunch of them not indexed and it mean that biography and information abouth this artists is missing for Google.
I have no clue how can i build links for 177 000 inner pages or how to rebuild whole website....

always continue with you link building. Try using google sitemap to check about crawling.

and wait... it takes time.

Out of curiosity... How similar are those pages?

Have you made sure to have different titles, headings etc, for all pages?

Anyways, if yes, then, as suggested by others here, backlinks (many!) + xml sitemap

Definitely create and submit a sitemap.

I'm not sure what type of system your friend has in place to manage his content but is there any way he can set up some sort of "similar articles" option. The idea I have is that when a visitor comes to one of his pages, at the bottom or on the sidebar somewhere there would be a list of similar articles the visitor could go to. That way you could build more traffic to other pages as well as build up an internal link system. Internal linking is just as important as external linkage.
