I am so fed up with Google

I am sick of Google manipulating results. Without even getting into my own SEO issues, just look at this:

Google is #7 for the search search engine
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=search+engine

But they bumped themselves to #1 for the search books
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=books

As if books.google.com is actually more relevant to somone looking for books than amazon.com.

What makes you think this is a manipulated result?

I agree that it's not the most relevant result, but there are many, many cases of Google's algo failing to provide the most relevant results.

I don't think they're manipualting results, just that they're updating the links so fast that the Google dance is a little crazy right now...

I guess that's my point. Intentional or not Google's quest to eliminate spam has made the result of their algorithm-crazy search results more meaningless. I regularly get garbage on Google and then remember how much they've sucked lately and go over to Yahoo and MSN. They are digging their own hole with their Everyone-is-Spamming algorithms.

Whether books.google is a direct manipulation or not, OK, I don't know, of course.
