Site dropped completely and won't get back up!

I need help for my friend's site which had top rankings for years until a redesign a year ago. Now there is quite a bit I have done to get it back up there, but not sure what else I can do. Seems like there is a penalty or something in place. The site is www.furnitureforsale.com and anyone with a clue or idea, let me know what you think I should do to get the site back to where it gets some serious targeted traffic.

Thanks a lot!

What was the earlier PR? I guess you could not retained the quality backlinks.

Maybe it's due to adding that link in your forum signature, the balance between quality links and non-quality links could have been disturbed by suddenly adding a couple of thousand non quality links that way.

I'm just guessing though.

webfinity is liked by many
You don't have a description or keywords in the heading. I had a site that I left off the description and it did poorly until I added a description.

That has crossed my mind as well. Ouch!

But before that it has already been going downhill.
PR was 7 a year and a half ago and I have only been getting links for about 3 months.

Well, I did notice that the majority of Bl's are from forums, which have been devaluated by Google not that long ago, I think you can fix the problem with that site with more links from authority sites.

Right. What happened was that he got a redesign a year ago and the names of all the urls have changed and he lost a ton of BLs from that. I agree that there is no need to remove the links from forums and directories, but to stop building those kinds of links and getting "real ones" instead.

Didn't he use redirects to point the removed pages to existing ones?

No, he didn´t know about it and just had a catchall to the homepage. The designer really did a fast one on him.

Here my suggestion:
Google indexed 1930 peges from your site and only 280 of them Google crawl all the time. The rest 1700 pages became supplemental (it mean that Google crawl it once in 2-6 months). Google don't really like to give top positions to supplemental pages.
Many links you have from link farms... like this one: http://all4-car-accident-attorney.in...ture-store.htm Who did it! Kill person who promoted your site. Google hates for this stuff.
Many backlinks from not related sites!

What should you do:

Find pr6-8 furniture / home / family related sites and subscribe for textlinks. It will cost you From $100 to $1 500 a month to get 3-10 homepage sponsored links. Decide with budget and subscribe for 2-3 monthes. Check result later and decide if you make profit or it waste for money.

Content:
To avoid supplemental results you need more links from trusted sites.

On this page http://www.furnitureforsale.com/namiquslchan.html (like all other pages) I can see picture of product, metatags and just 10-15 words with product description. It is wrong! You need rich content for each item. Something like this
"Affordable large Navy Microfiber Queen Sleeper, Chair and Ottoman Group. One of the most popular product in our store preffered and awarded by customers. You can order it and pick your own colour (black, white, green, brown, yellow, purpule etc.). It will fit perfect your room, hall, office. Large and comfortable. Fast shipping."

This content will give you a chance to pick customers who type "Large black sleeper with chair" , "Queen sleeper for room", "Affordable sleeper" etc...

Unique rich content should be on every page for every product.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot for taking the time. Will look for some good links and write content. How well do you think advertising in blog posts will work?

I used to have laptop store based only on affiliate links. All i was doing... i was writing rich content for each laptop with description, colours, impressions, fake feedbacks, reviews, quotes from magazines etc... I was getting huge ammount of customers and belive me....
Millioons people type on Google stuff like "Black Sony ViAO affirdable laptop with web camera" or something like "Buy SONY VAIO notebook from manufacture fast shipping" or even "Looking for online store where i can buy SONY laptop"

Try to use words like affordable, pretty, nice, comfortable, family, size, fast, design, luxury, cool, perfect etc...
As example you can see that Amazon always collect reviews and feedback from customers and post under product description... Why? Because thay are collecting content to win customers. Someone can write in review "It was greatest thing i ever had"... And later people come on Amazon when person type "Greatest golden ring"

Links from blogs... they help. I am profi to build them from PayPerPost. Today i promote 9 websites from my clients and i always spend their $100-200 for bloggers. But it is also some type of luck. One of my clients picked 500 extra daily visitors for his book store after some bloggers from PayPerPost wrote post about his website. It lasted 4-5 days untill post dropped from blog front page to archieve.

Anyway: if you would like to help me with promotion and build some links for you.... pm me. I often work with clients started from $400 (monthly or one time relationship to get customer nice links) and up....

your site is PR4. dont panic
create and add more content page from time to time, this helps to rank your site and subpages as well.
