Supplemental 'n' Sandbox

Hi Folks,

1. What is/are the reason of being in “Supplemental” Google SERPS. How pages can be recovered from the same?

2. Why a page is put to ‘Sandbox’?

Regards,
Tahir Ahmad

1 - if title, description, or content of two or more pages are very similar, they're marked as 'supplemental'. only the first found page will be shown in SERP,

2) - sandbox doesn't exist, it's just a myth. people tend to talk about sandbox because they're not able to get their sites indexed.

both answers are my personal experience

I personally understand that the sandbox is some kind of quarentine that a lot of new sites experience just after Google index them.

I would rather say Google appreciates content's age. That's why new content can't be ranked well if there is heavy competition for related phrases. People consider sandbox to be this "age factor". Maybe I'm wrong, but my experiences show that sandbox doesn't exist.

To avoid supplem. results you should use unique content and more backlinks for inner pages. Also, don't make site too complicated... try to make all pages closer to homepage (less than 3-4 clicks away)
Sandbox... it happen when you build too many bad links. Somethimes it happen if you submitted your site in too many (200 - 500+) free directories at the same time.

Sorry, but your idea about sandbox is wrong. Let's imagine you're my competitor or even enemy for some reason. Then I'll hire 100 indians and will tell them to submit your site into as many free directories as possible in very short time. Do you think you'd get banned by Google? I don't think so. Maybe it's how it worked years ago, but I'm not sure it works now.

Of course, I'm not a Google engineer/programmer, so I can't say I'm 100% sure.

How did it affect your traffic? Could you tell me more details, please? Of course, only if it's not secret .

ManhattanService - all pages was deindexed in one day and Google left only homepage in index.... Traffic was 0 unless someone was typing exact domainname. Website came back in index after i started to build only quality links (many of them for inner pages).
Winningyouthfootball - dissapeared from index with all keywords "Youth football", "coaching football", "coaching youth football"... It shows on #1 only when you type "winnin youth football" which exact words in domain name.

Thanks for info. Looks like they got penalized. I wouldn't say it's sandbox. But I don't care about words .
