Google Local Ranking Criteria

Hi all,

I am sure this has been asked in the past, but I didn't find a good answer.

Does anyone know what criteria Google uses to rank the Google Local results? Sometimes, it seems like the physical location is a big part of it, but sometimes it seems like location is not the most important factor.

If you are search for "computer services new york city", how does Google decide which one should go first, given the city is huge?

Try to put the location tag into your metatag and content.

submit to location specific directory, if you cant find such directory always mention your locality where did you put your backlinks. Like what you did in your sig.

Of course there is always some other known factor affect your position. domain age, pagerank, # and quality of your baclinks and some other factors unknown to us.
