Guide To Hiding Affiliate Links

Pretty good solution:

Fine since Matt started this whole thing on hiding links and how people do it in really silly ways like putting nonsense in the onMouseOver WindowStatus I thought why not have a little fun and throw out a nice tip on how to mask your affiliate links.

Hypothetically speaking let’s say you’ve got a thin affiliate site, and you’re of the opinion having all affiliate links out is a “bad quality” indicator, or maybe you want to redirect your links for tracking, or maybe you even buy into the whole “no follow” advertising BS. Here’s one way to do it:

I do not understand. "no follow" is so much easier.

No-follow doesn't help here.

It's to do with the quality rating of Adwords landing pages. If you've got outbound links to other sites, you run the risk of getting a low quality score. So, one way people get around that problem is to use these types of scripts.

Can also help with people who steal your affiliate links. Some dodgy toolbars redirect your links via the toolbar-owners affiliate number, meaning you don't get the credit.

Actually Outgoing links are not a bad thing. If you know how to do it properly.

Quite true, and now Google is sort of cracking down on sites that use "nofollow" tag.... lowering their priority in SERPs.... (that's my gut feeling)

I wouldn't use nofollow.

The only people that seem to know about it are SEOs, so, if nothing else, it flags your site as a site that has been SEO'd.
