Paid Links: Time For Google To Give Up
Time For Google To Give Up The Fight Against Paid Links?
Danny Sullivan on the tired old debate, and Google's empty posturing regarding no-follow:

Quote:
I missed jumping into last week's debate because I was traveling. Can't say I missed that much. In general, I'm pretty tired of the entire "let's police paid links" thing at this point. Google especially created the link economy, and that link genie is simply not going back into the bottle, no matter how much you try to stuff it in with nofollow might and warnings.
Tired? Yeah, tired. I mean it's just become absurd at this point. But I'll give it one more go, a stroll down memory lane in the wake of nofollow and the Paid Links War II (PLW I was fought in 2002-2003 against SearchKing).

I really think Google should give up on that silly idea. Aren't they already selling links with their AdWords progam? Or what? Gread read! Thanks!

Danny has been talking this way on his podcast for a few months now, but the recent statements by Cutts have really pushed him over the top.

Google is the only one who are screaming about it and it works. I have clients who scared as hell to buy links and all they asking me to do only............ AdWords!
So, for Google it works! If person know nothing about SEO and read Google scary stories about buying links, this person will spent $1000 for AdWords instead of to pay SEO company.

I am glad that he spoke up about it. It is a crazy attempt to get more marketshare. I dont think that they will enforce it!

google see links value with weight. link at footer dont weight much as link at top of page.
IMO... link trading will still growing, and google will put more weight to those links that is within top 10 links. links after that is less weight. and this algorithm will changed time to time.

Google especially created the link economy

A weak argument. Google's paid 'links' are of no benefit for search engine ranking purposes. Google want to police links that are, and with good reason too.
