Well, I'm not sure if this has been posted here yet or not, but recently, I made a new discovery and within my Google webmaster/sitemaps account, Google now shows me ALL the inbound links to my site. I think that this may be a very recent change which is much better than the "link:www.yourwebsite.com" command. It is also much better than Yahoo Site Explorer as they allow you to see all inbound (and outbound) links to/from all of your site's pages! If you have not yet done so, I highly recommend to start a Google sitemap for your site from here:
Also, now within Google webmaster/sitemaps accounts, you can also see keywords and keyword phrases that are currently used by people to find your site through Google. And, believe me, you REALLY want to know all of the above. Check it out!
Thanks for informing us about Google inbound links. I observed that also that Google inbound links is much better than Yahoo. Google value the quality of links. Not just like MSN and Yahoo, there is a sudden drop of inbound links and keywords.
Thank you for your reply, and, of course, your very welcome! If I discover anything else 'new' about Google sitemaps, I'll post it up here again for sure. And, you're right on, as recently I have noticed a drop in Google-recognized inbound links for my site overall and also some PR has decreased a bit on some of my pages. And, I was kind of expecting this as I now remember that I read a few months ago that the Big G was planning to turn up their algorithms in order to combat against link farms and fake blog spamming et al. Also, IMHO, I really think that Google has further improved and recently put even more significance into their Hilltop algorithm as well. Well, its either that or they just want their beloved You Tube to take over the web video industry!?!?!?!
Thank you Mr. Mit! Yeah, I figured that this was not so 'new' to everyone, but I didn't see any posts on it anywhere. And, also, in my humble opinion, the Google sitemaps system has really been improved considerably within the past year. I highly recommend anyone who has a small to mid-sized site of less than 500 pages to at least try the Google webmaster sitemaps system. Of course, it is not perfect, but I have not had any big problems with it since I started using it over a year ago.
And, I can't guarantee this, but I have read that sites that use the Google sitemaps system get crawled more often by the Googlebot. As for my site, currently the Googlebot is nearly always listed daily as a user agent in my webalizer and my site gets completely crawled about once every seven or eight days. And, for sure, it is to one's advantage to have their site crawled often by the Googlebot. Now, of course, that doesn't increase PR or SERPS ranking levels et al, but it does give you alot of information that you would not normally have access to and it also helps keep your pages within the massive Google matrix for sure. Check it out!
A Sitemap file can contain no more than 50,000 URLs and be no larger than 10MB when uncompressed. If your Sitemap is larger than this, break it into several smaller Sitemaps. These limits help ensure that your web server is not overloaded by serving large files to Google.
And, of course, I don't know exactly how you have your sitemaps setup, but if you are only using one for your 60,000 page site, it is possible that you may not have all of your pages from that site being indexed by Google. So, IMHO, its a good idea to do random checks on various URLs from your sites by simply copying and pasting them into the Google search box and seeing if Google has them indexed or not. Most of the time, they are. But, in my case, I have had a few occasions whereby some of my pages were not indexed by Google even though they were included within my Google sitemap! Well, as I wrote above, its not a perfect system, but it is pretty good and includes so much valuable information that can potentially help webmasters improve their sites' visibility and, possibly, their sites' SERPS rankings if they understand and follow the sitemaps data results and make ALL appropriate changes. Obviously, one should never overlook or ignore any data that Google provides about one's site. No way.
