Rumour: Google to buy Feedburner from Seth Sethi earlier today reports that Google is rumored to buy FeedBurner, a feed management, analytics and advertising company. Valleywag has said they confirmed the rumors and add that the purchase price is about $100 million.

I guess the important point as far as webmasters are concerned is that Google continue to acquire user behavior data, and measure their behavior.

This data will almost certainly filter through to rankings, if it isn't doing so already...

Rumors about Google acquiring RSS management company Feedburner from last week, started by ex-TechCrunch UK editor Sam Sethi, are accurate and are now confirmed according to a source close to the deal. Feedburner is in the closing stages of being acquired by Google for around $100 million. The deal is all cash and mostly upfront, according to our source, although the founders will be locked in for a couple of years.

The information we have is that the deal is now under a binding term sheet and will close in 2-3 weeks, and there is nothing that can really derail it at this point.

Huge congratulations to Feedburner. The company was founded in 2003 and has raised just $10 million in capital over two rounds. Portage Ventures funded their $1 million Series A round in 2004. The $9 million Series B round was closed in mid 2005 (second close in 2006), from Mobius Venture Capital and Union Square Ventures.

Thanks chicgeek - I looked and most have just went right by this thread.

I'm not sure they are loosing there focus, I think that "Ads by Google" in each feed can be very compiling reason to buy.

Maybe one small reason, but not worth 100 million. I think is to aquire more surfing bahavior to improve Google itself...making billions more for them.

Google buying Feedburner doesn't feel like loss of focus .. that's just more internet domination .. Google taking a stake in a biotech company .. now that's nuts!

Yes, Google may buy feedburner 'coz everytime I view my feeds made by feedsburner I was redirected to google add page...

I read that news also that Google intend to buy the Feedburner.
FeedBurner has a very big number of feeds: more than 700,000. Google has a lot of advertisers, but the AdSense for feeds program is still in closed beta.
