Does Google penalize you if you sell links?

I just read some blogs saying that Google will kick you out or drop your page rank if you sell links from your web site. Is this true??

no its not true, there thinking of trying it but it will never work, just do it they wouldnt even know if you have sold the links or if you have placed them on for free, and what about all them dirs out there :S

I hope you are right!!
However because of requests, I just changed my linking information on my web site to include paid links. Now it will be out in the open that I accept paid for links. (Besides just adding a advertising post to this blog in the “links” forum) Do you think I should make any changes?

NOt possible for google to track your all activities, how could google get to know that this web sell links?

Susan714 - Google drop sites for any number of reasons. Sometimes, they fail to crawl them properly.

As far as paid links go, they're more likely to discount the value of those links. That is - if they know which links they are, and if they can be bothered trying to find out.
