Using Google for research

Can any one tell me how I can use google as a research tool to find the number of specific sites online.
For example "dating sites"

I tried several keywords but the result was inconclusive.

From your experience you may know what to search for and would be grateful for the support

I am trying to do a research for my site www.rolancers.com and would basically need away to determine these figures for specific industries

Like dating sites, auctiion sites, job sites etc... I posted this same question in a similar forum.

Also how many spring up daily/yearly etc

If this method is not a realistic one, as it was suggested to me by someone in another forum, can you tell me the best way to go about this
