PageRank dropped on some pages, but not on all

hi

my website (guitarresources.net) had a pagerank 4 on all indexed pages. But now I noticed that the pages song, artist and lessons only have PR3, the index is still PR4, how can this PR change? The only thing I changed is that I added a link on the index page to a site that gave me their award.

Could this be the cause?

grtz

Because the link is on your index page, it takes the most from your PR and from your internal pages. Such web awards are NOT a good idea for people who care anything for PR.

hm,

interesting, I thought that internal links were automatically given the PR of the parent page.

thanks for the information

I like to think of PR as like water flowing, and websites and pages as like pipe systems.

Most InBound Links (IBLs) will point to the site index page - so think of water flowing to the the entrance to your site. If you simply link into your internet pages, then all of this water flows through to those pages, splitting off and distributing itself.

However, if you link out from your index page, then as soon as the water flows to your site, you suddenly have a significant amount of water diverted away to another site. That can only mean less water flowing into your internal pages.

It's just an analogy I like.
