Google indexing shows PDF files but not the home page

I am the webmaster for the Carey Business School Finance Club, which is part of Johns Hopkins University.

Our site's URL is http://web.jhu.edu/financeclub/index.html

The site is registered with Google. The top-10 search results for several keyword combinations show some of the PDF files on the site but does not show the most important: the home page.

The searches that I used were:

carey business finance club
business finance club
finance club
hopkins finance club

Each search result shows links to 2 or 3 PDF files in the top 10. Some searches return different PDF files but never the main HTML homepage.

Any idea how to get the homepage into the top 10 and the PDF files further down?

Thanks

I believe by changing the previous page title (CBSFC - or whatever it was) to the phrase you want to rank for, you have done enough. The old title is still in Google's cache, so next time a Google spider visits it will update and you should be number 1.

But you might put in a meta description tag with that phrase in as well, it seems that Google appreciates that (not for ranking purposes though - it seems it's a box they just like to be ticked) and surfers appreciate something that indicates this is where they should click: "Welcome to..." etc.

If that fails, next try to get people to link to you using the words 'Carey Business School Finance Club' in the anchor text of the link. Shouldn't be too hard. Submit to directories, that's easy enough.

As I say, though, what's been done so far should sort it out.
