Google To Offer Better Email?
Google have bought the e-mail security and management company, Postini, for $625 million.

As part of that strategy, Google has been trying to persuade businesses to replace existing e-mail systems and other programs with the company’s own package of business software. That package, called Google Apps, includes the Gmail service, an online calendar and programs that can read and edit documents created with the Word and Excel programs from Microsoft.

On a related note, how do you deal with e-mail? I have two spam blockers, including SpamFighter, and a ton of spam still gets through.

My gmail spam filter is quite impressive - maybe only 5 spam mails a month get through. Even more impressive as I get in excess of 50 spam a day nicely filtered away.
And only twice have I ever found "real mail" in my spam, and those were registration or similar website emails.
More security is always welcome, though.

I am happy with the way gmail is filtering my spams. Wonder why is Google spending so much money on this company.

Google already has an awesome email system. As a matter of fact most of my email is filtered through Gmail. I cannot see this company adding much usability or functionality to Gmail.

I have to agree that Gmail is an amazing system. I too hardly see any spam sneak past their filters and do I care that they crawl my emails? Nope but that's another story.
I currently redirect all my domain emails into my Gmail account which is then downloaded onto my local machine. I've disabled all 'catch all' options within my domain emails to stop those awful bounce back spam mails.
Honestly I cant think of one complaint with Gmail, unlike Yahoo or Hotmail which are noting but spam baiters.

A folder feature, instead of those labels, would be great.

Usability of the Yahoo email interface is perfect. Maybe the big G will adopt this way too soon. Anyway, thanks for posting this deal, days after your posting I was not aware of this happening. Interesting to note about..

I really do not like this mentality even if I am a GMAIL user too for some secondary email accounts.

Last time I looked Yahoo Mail was bloated and slow.. Not to mention almost 1/3 of the screen is filled with ads. If you want to anything actually useful with Yahoo Mail aside from sending mail from an @yahoo.com account, it's an upsell.
Gmail on the other hand is fast, sleek and efficient with only one small sky scrapper ad when you view an email. Not to mention Gmail gives you pop access, forwarding and the ability to access POP accounts inside of Gmail for free. Plus, they have one of the best spam filters around.
For webmail, Gmail is my preference.
