Will Google Drop Supplemental Results?
Nice spot from Barry - will Google drop the supplemental index entirely soon?

Matt McGee reported last week that he noticed that a method where webmasters can see pages that Google places in its supplemental index appears to be disappearing from some of Google's data centers. Now he's spotted a comment at SEOmoz from Google's Matt Cutts which suggests that Google might do away with the supplemental index all together.

By the way, the method to check for supplemental results works like this. Do a site: search for your site, followed by **** and then -asssdsd.

I don't see any point to keep pages in the supplemental results if is just to deter pages in the abyss of this search engine.
We all know if we are not on the 3 first pages, we are out of the game.
One more thing, supplemental result is a trash for whatever algo reasons, it could be duplicates, no power links, bad navigations, etc...
So why wasting the time making a supplemental result if it is not relevant enough for the main index?

It is in Google's advantage to keep the Supplmental Result. Just think about how many websites and webpages are junk or spam. If Google treats these sites and pages the same, it is a waste of Google's resources to constantly crawl them and index/re-index them. With Supplemental Result, Google doesn't care much about these sites/pages.

Hope they won't drop the supplemental results. They may relax the rules than completely remove them...

I don't think they would relax the rules, or if they want to do something smart, they should open a function in webmaster tools to indicate the reason of SR so webmasters can correct and improve sites and pages. Cleaner the SE Google would be, more advertisers will buy the service.
I really don't like Google to put pages in SR full of spamming/penalty listing. If it is a technical problems like navigation problem, or not enough links directed to products pages, should be considered differently.
Like I said SR should not be listed at all, because visitors could be very disappointed if they click on clone sites, link farms etc....with just a page with thousands deceptive links or redirect on page full of advertising.
Remember, the purpose of SE is to serve and display the most related keywords, or keyphrases corresponding to their listings crawled on the net and sell ads like adwords.
Ask to the advertisers if they will be happy to pay when search results display link farms pages, even if is SR. Personatly I will not pay for this crap. So the best way to sell advertising like adwords is to clean up and remove deceptive and unrelated pages made specialy for SEO or massive advertissements.
This is why SR need to be removed, even if you are in SR you have a chance the SE will not most of the time display your pages ranked high, so why keeping crap in second index?

Hi Peter!
Thanks for posting this story! Well, sorry about this, but it is kind of funny, as I also posted it here:
Is Google Gearing Up To Drop The Supplemental Result Label?
and, basically, succeeded in creating a duplicate page on the same exact story on the same exact day!!! OH MY DEAR BUDDHA!!! And since your post received more responses (i.e. "natural links") and mine recieved ZERO well, its obvious that I have, basically, created a supplemental forum page about the same exact google supplemental search results story, and you know what that means:
SPAM! SPAM! SPAM! SPAM! SPAM! SPAM! SPAM!

This thread title and your question are very misleading. The post you are referencing is discussing the dropping of the supplemental results label - not the results themselves.

I believe that what Matt Cutts said was that the supplemental results will be combined with the main index over the next few months (I think he commented about it on Seomoz).
