While it is humorous to note that John doesn't rank anywhere in the first 3-4 pages of the results for his name, it also makes sense. Google is directing anyone searching for John to an article pointing out why....

I think it was not his link building tactics that caused the penalty , the cause was selling links from his blog.

In all seriousness though, based on his methods and ideology, I don't think he is super concerned about this. He feels that he will be back on top because "Search Engines follow people" In his words.

I admire him, if google gives you more traffic becuase people are linking to your site, guess what people will do - yea get more links.

John doesn't seem to deny the fact that he uses some techniques which are not all fair game. But indeed he got a site with 185000/month visitors 27000/month income. He became a brand himself. I think he can care less getting ranked on search engines.

yes mr. chow got deranked in google because of selling links, so did most sites who sold links for years, wondering if its a good thing that google is cracking down, hmm

Personally I think everybody have the right to earn money. Selling links from our own sites is our right. Search engines may be unhappy because thats hurting their business, but they are doing the same. SE should change their algorithm, not taking links from other sites as a factor determining page rank or serps rank, if they have to.

It's a strange new era on the internets when people can't link to someone, somewhere....because Google says so.
