Good PR, site not ranking.

Hi,

Had a new site for about two months, have submitted to several free directory’s, and managed to get several hundred PR5 - PR4 backlinks with our keywords in the anchor text.(on several unrelated sites managed by friends design company).

Have the keyword in the title, meta and h1 tags and have about a KW density of about 7%. Site has about 30 pages with no out going links. Google has crawled all our pages. We did this just before the Toolbar update and are now showing PR5 with 100 backlinks.

Only problem is we don’t come in the top 500 for our main keyword, we are on page 1 for some other keywords but these are much less competitive. Our main keyword is fairly competitive, highest PR on page 1 is PR5 with a few hundred backlinks, by page 10 some of the sites just happen to mention the keyword but arent targeting it.

Have seen others asking similar questions and a few theories as to what this, such as...

1. lack of links from related sites is a problem
2. should have more outgoing links
3. Not enough variation in anchor text
Any thoughts on these?

Its only been a month since we got all these backlinks, am i just being too impatient or do you think something is wrong.

cheers

Yup. It'll take about 2 months (or longer) from when you actually get a link to when credit is given for it. Unrelated links aren't as good as related links, but they surely aren't going to hurt you, anyway.

do you have links on related sites? it seems that for PR it doesn't matter if the sites that link to you are related to your site, but it also seems that PR is almost worthless now. getting sites on related topics is key.

Any proof for the claim that related links are key?
