Question about PageRank of expired domain

Some domain expired with PageRank 4 or something. If buy one expired domain with PageRank 4, I want to know if the PageRank will be reset to 0 when Google update the PageRank next time. Thanks.

Odds are being this close to the PR update it will lose some or all. If you buy after the update you stand a good chance of retaining the PR providing the site created is worthy of the current PR.

i.e. People pick up the PR4 names and turn them into word clouds most of them end up with a PR0 at update time. Though some only lose some. My experience was a PR4 dropped to a PR3. So do your research on how many many backlinks it has still and with some luck some edu backlinks.

whenever you buy a domain check for it's back links

in google or use www.checkpagerank.net to check backlinks and to see whether PR is real or fake

If a expired domain has good no of backlinks ( about 10-100)

then you can go ahead and buy thiat domain

As ramanean says, the sole deciding factor in PR is the number of backlinks. If the expired domain still has links pointing at it, there's no reason why it shouldn't maintain PR.

It will not get down to 0 but you will have to get down to a backlink campaign in order to maintain / grow PR further.

I suggest not focusing so much over PR and instead writing quality content that brings IBLs naturally. This will not take much time to succeed.
