Unhappy Why do I ranking higher worldwide than locally?

Hi all,

I run txtlocal.com - a UK based website with UK IP address using a .com TLD (we do have international customers too, so don't use .co.uk as our main TLD).

One of our main keywords is "SMS Marketing". Can anyone explain why we rank on page 2 of Google.com and Google.com.au for this term, but only page 9 on Google.co.uk?

Google knows we are a UK site because we ARE listed in a Google.co.uk "Pages from the UK" search..... so why oh why do we rank so lowly in the UK, yet so high worldwide?

Many many thanks to anyone who can come to my rescue on this. It's been driving me crazy for months now

Thanks,

Alastair

Strange me it's the opposite.. first pos for local 2nd + page on every other data center.
One thing tho i think i have a penalty: page 1 local on a good traffic kw, no where to be found in the other datacenters when i used to be page 15 a few months ago in them then dissapered and never returned, REALLY Sucks, I guess too much link building?

You need inbound links from UK domains and local directories.

Cool.. well, that all seems pretty conclusive then!

I shall have to start linkbuilding and will read up as much as I can on the best way to do this.

Thanks all.

First of all if you check Google.com it returns 18,100,00 results for the term "SMS Marketing", but Google.co.uk 29.400.000, so you have much bigger compatition in UK.
Agree, if you continue building your local backlinks it will help a lot.

Have a great day,
Peter

I think that is what has confused me. How can google.co.uk return more results than google.com... I thought google.com was a " container" for all the worldwide sites.

Excellent news anyway.. I now know exactly what to do (and have made very good progress today!).

Just be careful not to get 'too many' links too quickly, have seen sites get 000's too quick (ie not organic link building) and well lets say Google doesn't like it and dropped them completely form the indexes.

Lots of good old fashioned PR and marketing, build relationships with sites that have you have business links to etc.

John Scott's post http://www.v7n.com/forums/seo-forum/...o-v7n-way.html is a good place to start.

good luck
