Appearently there is a way to manipulate PR in the toolbar for viewers of a site, I wouldn't know how though and I'm not interested to find out either.

I agree with Ferre you can manipulate Google PR toolbar (Fake Page Rank) but you cannot manipulate Google Real PR....

Yes, Google PR is based on their algorithm.. In order to have high PR you must have high quality backlinks...

CTABUK is liked by many
I just read a post I made here years ago -in those days I too thought that PR was valuable. Internal PageRank is valuable but toolbar PR is of no real benefit from a SEO viewpoint. The only time I have seen someone benefit wsa when they sold a site with high PR on the basis that it was a Google favourite -had the guy searched the keywords and SERP the site was on page 12.

You can manipulate the google page rank but still you can have a fake pr. Only Google can give the real page rank. Most of them, said that page rank has no value at all but it still consider in getting reciprocal links.

I have aquired a few links (one way) and have also been using netscape to get higher PR links, but i'm not sure how much they will count as they don't last very long. Usually on a PR 8 page and if google caches it, it may have some positive effect. It was definately the way the blog got indexed initially, as it was the 1st thing i did.

Thumbs down The PR is only one indicator among others...

I have no interest for any service or method that will falsely tweak my PR rank upwards because that would expose me to eventual counter-measures to rank me back "where I truthfully belong".

Furthermore, any web site that produces quality content will usually score a PR=3 in a matter of weeks so it's pointless to even attempt to mess around with Google's work if that was one's "target PR level".

If a "motivated" web publisher wants to liftoff towards the PR=7-8-9 levels, it's a pretty risky move because the content would most likely not be "up-to-speed" for such high marks and it would look phony.

So the average web publisher looking to "accelerate his or her PR ranking" will most probably be hunting for a PR=5 which is mildly reassuring for the web surfers who trust this ranking to mean anything. The problem is, very few web surfers actually base their online discoveries on this ranking alone... so it's pretty much pointless to waste time trying to cheat a system that's not that important, after all.

Time, for serious web publishers, is better spent creating quality content (which gets the "real" high marks, anyway).

Although it might seem like I'm stating the obvious, I feel it's important to remind venturing web publishers that the Google PR is only one indicator among many, many others...

Manipulating PR is useless. What's the reason why you manipulate that? It's bacause you want to impress the visitor, but they don't know that it's fake and you have no real PR yet in your site.

fake vs manipulated

Why is everyone speaking of fake PRs?

As manipulating may also include such things as buying/selling links, etc.
In other words, you really grow your PR with the help of some tricks so to say.

I think that's what actually interested briggidere...

In other case there's a whole bunch of fake PR checkers so it's really easy to check the PR validity.

And yet, does anyone know, how to change that PR indicator value?

Thanks
