Is this common in Google?

We had a key word, music gifts, which was ranked in the top 1-5 naturally in Google. About 3 weeks ago, it completely disappeard. As if the site was de-indexed. But interestingly enough, the site still ranks high with some of our other key words. We think we narrowed it down to some bad content, but it just seems really odd that the key word ranking would just dissappear. It's caused us to re-look at everything we do and have done but, I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out what has happened. the site is www.albertsgifts.com. Does anyone know why this would happen? or likewise had it happen to their site? I really appreciate any and all help.

Marc

That was also happen to my site after google update backlink and PR. I did not say that PR was already finished co'z we don't know the exact date and time but I can say, it's part of their update. Some pages gone away of their position in the SERP and some will going to top.

Same problem here... was ranked top 10 for so many good keywords and the just dropped down 6-7 pages... I read in another thread that its quite common during update and that ranking will be back soon..

I sure hope so, im losing money..

Yes this can happen during update periods. The bad thing is that is frustrating to no end. I saw my links on one of my sites last week drop almost completely out of Google for the week and then a few days later they were all back and then some. I lost about 50% of that sites traffic during this time as well. If you have not done it allready you might put a bookmarking feature on your site if you can. It does help for repeat visitors.

Malok is on the right pathMalok is on the right path
Either you got lost in the shuffle during an update - or you got penalized for black hat search engine stuff.

If its the former - then wait, and you'll pop back in.

If its the latter - clean up the black hat stuff, and resubmit for inclusion.

I noticed some changes in Google algos also.
How you promoted this keyword? Maybe all links which was for this keyword looked alike??? Google doesn't like link similarity and if all links was from directories, articles, blogs etc... you dropped. You have to build different backlinks from forums, directories, blogs, social sites, tags, articles, link pages etc...

Sounds like its common and I realize that. Sniper and malok may have touched on some things that a) wouldnt have mattered much in the past and b) we were unaware of. It's tough to guess what G is going to do versus what they have done in the past...
