Reports Of Google Dropping Masses Of Pages

Glitch? Reporting issue? Purge?

Have you noticed anything?

A WebmasterWorld thread is reporting, in heavy numbers, that Google is returning fewer results for sites they have in their index.

What I mean is that if you do a site:www.domain.com command in Google, the number of results being returned is much lower than in the past.

This is not only being reported by one or two people, there are dozens of people reporting this in that thread.

WebmasterWorld administrator, Tedster, confirms:

One of my clients - 9 year old site - has dropped from 1,700 urls indexed to 1,300. They've never been that low in recent years.

Well, I do notice a drop in the number of indexed pages of one of my major sites.... it seems quite true. Not sure about others.

I don't think I was de-indexed, but I was certainly "Google-slapped" about a week ago. My site seemingly vanished from virtually all keywords that I rank for, causing quite an inconvenience in traffic. This wouldn't be the first time this has happened, it happened a few times in the past. Weird thing is whenever I checked my keyword ranking tools, they reported I still ranked high for a few hundred keywords. Right now it's back up there, and I'm hoping it stays that way.

I've noticed a drop to sinse my forum was added and paged increased dramatically, now the opposite is happening. I wonder what the reason is?

Google's algorithm is dynamic and always changing. The scientists employed by Google isn't going to be settled on one algorithm, so I believe it's common that a new algorithm (indexing) is about to settle in.

I fluctuate every month. I am always on the first page results but vary from 3rd to 9th depending on how Google "feels" at the moment. Nothing is rock hard for any length of time. My website gets a fresh cache every 3 or 4 days and not monthly.
