I noticed this as well. Some of the terms I had focused on recently jumped overnight. For instance:
virginia sem
My site now holds the number one and two listings. While this is not a high volume term it converts well for me. Beforehand I only had a top 10 position.
I've also notice improvements on my clients' sites.

Of course, I have already experienced that many times... My site went to top 10 but after it come back to normal my site is on top 50 searches of competitive keyword...

I agree with this in part. The dance happens and when all is said and done sites often go back to their original positions. That said a site that is well optimized oftentimes will hold on to their gains. I've noticed the following with the dance:
- Sites that already rank high sometimes lose their positions for a few weeks. These same site owners panic when all they have to do is wait it out and they will be back up their. Unfortunately for them, sometimes they rush to make changes to reclaim their rankings and end up shooting themselves in the foot.
- A larger number of spam sites are removed from the index. Usually after a Google dance their are fewer spam sites clogging the index.
