Google News Now Hosting Their Own News

Rather than sending people away to external news sites. This is a major shift in policy.

Today we’re launching a new feature on Google News that will help you quickly and easily find original stories from news publishers -- including stories from some of the top news agencies in the world, such as the Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, UK Press Association and the Canadian Press -- and go directly to the original source to read more.

Google is paying for some content, essentially, and keeping people on site longer.

Because the Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, UK Press Association and the Canadian Press don't have a consumer website where they publish their content, they have not been able to benefit from the traffic that Google News drives to other publishers. As a result, we’re hosting it on Google News.

They'll benefit from it for sure, and it saves people from seeing 100 of the same article in Google News. The one's who lose out are the news sites that were getting some of the traffic from those stories before. People like me who run news sites and don't use articles pasted from the AP, Reuters, etc. will benefit because there's a better shot of my site's stories will be getting featured more prominently.

It will be interesting if Google will 'share' these news with other websites (maybe via a subscription). It will be nice to have the possibility to embed some news in your website .
