Cricket has a point, it is better to do what you love because as a result you will be getting paid to do what you love.
The drawback is, you wont make as much money. If you love making your product you will be less likely to send the manufacturing offshore to say Taiwan, but if you want to be the richest you wont have much of a choice.
Ultimately you have to have a dream, a big one, then just push like a bat out of hell until you have it.
Plus, if you do what you love you will end up spending more time working in your business than on it, dont forget the trap of the Technician, the manager and the entrepreneur (the E Myth ), the idea is to start, systamize and get out within3-5 years, out doesnt necesarily mean sell, it just means, have someone growing the business for you.
Personally I prefer spending the day at the beach with my partner and a picnic than working.
Re: adsense, I personally would set up a site that is a benefit to internet shoppers, then have a paypal donate button and and also have addsense and ask people who cant donate to visit one of your suporters (the adsense), however I dont know if you are allowed to ask people to click the links.
An idea would be like this,
Set up a site, run a small database say Mysql, and have maby a total of 10 php pages, and all the site does is allows people to report scammers and con artisits that have ripped them off. And it allows other people to do a seach through the database to check a company before they give them money.
There would be conditions to entering people, eg, they have to have physically taken your money and not done what they said they would.
You have to register with your real email address (hidden) so that you know they are not full of bollocks.
When people are entering in the scam comapnies details you can grab the domain name owners name, phone number and address to display on the site.
And then even better is you can make a form object that other companies who do advertising and SEO etc can put on their site, it just opens a new window and does a quick search for their own name and shows that they are not listed as a scammer.
And you could easily set up other objects where people can enter in a URL and it does a search, and you can give these out for free.
Personally I reakn that if you made that you could easily get some 5,000+ people a day visiting and searching the site, another 1,000+ people who do searches from other peoples websites (of course you have addsense in the pop up window aswell)
And im sure that if you did that, people would donate to you every time they did a search and found a company they were going to give money to. I know i would.

Total cost $36 for 2 months which is how long it would take you to break even.
Yes there are some flaws with the idea, what if they arnt a scammer etc, but why dont u ssshhhh and give her a better idea or even better, list the problems and a solution.
And i already have the perfect domain that you can use, site: (www) saynotoscammers.com (i think its parked with sedo or 1&1 I forget now)
Edit: I just re read this, seriously it is a potential million dollar idea and it would be so simple to impliement its not even funny, i can see the design in my head already. + when people put the form object checker on their site for their clients it is a free back link to you. + you are a programmer so you could whip this up in your spare time faster than I could.
