How often does Google crawl and how do we check?

we're quite new to site promotion - we were wondering how we can tell if our site has been crawled by google and how often it does the crawl.

Check your webstats for the Googlebot IP: 64.68.* Google crawls almost constantly.

this might seem like a spaz question - and point this out if you think so.

We're currently 6th and 7th on a google search page when you enter "accountants leicester".

problem is one of our competitors is just above us. we want to get above them - is there any advice you can give us on doing this?

- can we just upload our home page with different/better keywords or do we have to upload and then wait for google to do another crawl?

at the moment none of our new website pages are listed on google - just the old ones which we've since overwritten.

Either way, you have to wait for Google to crawl and index your new pages, which could take a while. In the meantime, have a look at SEO basics:

You can also add a script to your site to email you when a bot comes crawling your site...

Stats and logs are the easiest. Some forum software allows you to watch the process in real time as your boards are spidered.
