Which is better (PR type of qusetion)

Would 2 PR six sites be better? Or one PR7 and one PR5?

Couldn't really answer that, but why so obsessed with PR. It doesn't exactly mean that much nowadays.

Well from a money perspective probably the PR7 one, because people would go for that when buying links over a PR6 site.

page rank has nothing to do with getting better search results. just because you have a pr 7 site, doesn't mean you'll rank well for good keywords...

to answer your question, i think a PR 7 site is more valueable than 2 PR 6 sites...cardesign is right...you can sell advertising on a pr 7 site more easily than a pr 6 because it has a higher 'perceived value' ...

No one knows for sure, but the mathmeticians who have estimated that PR goes up 4x. So a PR7 link is 4 times better than a PR6 link. So, you'd need 4 PR 6's to equal 1 PR7 (or 4 PR1's to equal 1 PR2) etc.

Well. a PR5 site prob won't get any good money for a link, but the PR7 will get more then a PR6. But what about 2 PR6's againts one PR7, is one PR7 still better?

toddieg, when Must-Have Software went up to a PR6, I've been getting 50 more uniques a day average...

Yes. As I said, the best estimates suggest that a PR7 is equal to 4 PR6's. So 2 PR6's is half a PR7.

Bear in mind though - the benefit you get from an inbound link is divided equally across the number of links on the page (including internal links). So, having a link from a two PR6 pages each with 10 or less links on it would probably be better than 10 links from PR 7 pages with 100 links each.

Ok. Thanks for clearing this up Grumpus. And also, since you said 4 PR6 links equals a PR7, if I do get 4 PR6 links leading to my site, www.must-have-software.net, would I have a PR7?

If your link was the ONLY link on the page, then probably. There's also a damping factor involved. It works out so that only about 85% of a page's PR is actually passed along to the pages it links to.

Again, though, you'd have to be the ONLY link on the page to get the full benefit of that page's power.

The best way to figure out what kind of work it's going to take to get from PRwhatever to PRwhatever+1 is to take all of your current backlinks and know that you'll have to (roughly, since you don't know exactly where you are within the fraction of the current PR you have) multiply that work by 4. So, if you've got a PR5 and have 250 links, you'd need 1000 links of roughly the same quality and quantity to get to PR6.

Then again, if you've focused on only high power links and now your numbers of existing high power sites that can link to you are diminished, it'll be harder to keep up the pace of getting the same quality of links and that 1000 is sure to go up. This is why I always suggest that people don't worry about PR when trying to get an inbound link - just get the damned link, already. Then move onto the next one.

Every link counts, so just go get 'em. It takes more time to decide whether to "bother" getting a link than it does to ask for it and get it.

Yuppers. If the answers were clear and black-and-white, there wouldn't be any need for all the SEO forums out there, would there?

The best advice I can give for anyone is to just take a step back and try to get an idea of what the big picture is. If you focus on any one thing - be it PR or link text or content or copy or titles or whatever - you're only making your life harder. Learn about the little things, but resist the urge to focus on them - just keep them in mind as you learn about more little things. Pretty soon, you'll have a working strategy that'll work.
