Google To Do Battle With FaceBook

Well kinda. Techcrunch is reporting inside info that claims Google are going to fight Facebook by releasing more APIs.

http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/09/21...on-november-5/

Quote:
The short version: Google will announce a new set of APIs on November 5 that will allow developers to leverage Google’s social graph data. They’ll start with Orkut and iGoogle (Google’s personalized home page), and expand from there to include Gmail, Google Talk and other Google services over time.
The question is: what "social" data? Orkut? (who cares) Gmail? (privacy issues) Google Reader? (how is that "social")

Anyway, November 5 is the date...

Interesting. it will be good to follow this story and see what the outcome is. ultimately i think its a good idea, but i also think google is getting too big for their boots, and trying to be the king of everything!!

Geez, can't they just be happy for Facebook? I read that Microsoft is trying to buy facebook for $10 billion! I sure hope not. I mean I love Microsoft and I love Google... I just wish they could accept that they aren't the only 'smart' businesses out there.

Ha.. they've been battling for a long time already.. Microsoft hates that Google had such an easy time sliding in place and being successful when they worked so hard to get their place in the pc business.. but hey.. it's not Googles fault.. and of the two companies I have to say I respect Google much more.

Your last sentence shows your are biased against Microsoft.

That aside, when you became famous, you become arrogant. When you become rich and arrogant, you lose support because the people who brought you up through their support will not want to support you because of your ARROGANCE.

Microsoft, Google and all other big names became big because of US! normal people who buy their products.

If normal people got no money, you think Google buys microsoft products and Microsoft uses Apple with Mozila browsers!

Thumbs down Google's answer to Facebook

In all fairness, Facebook has much less appeal for the masses than MySpace.

As for Orkut, Google's answer to Facebook, it also pales in comparison to MySpace — not on the looks but the sheer liberty of "painting the place in your own colors".

Agreed: many page layouts aren't easy to navigate, in MySpace but people seem to love diving into the unknown, it adds a certain mystery to the whole social networking discovery process.

As such, I believe Facebook isn't a threat to Google. Furthermore, Orkut doesn't offer enough "flexibility" to leapfrog Facebook... or MySpace.

This being said, with Google's army of creative coders at work, things might change quickly!

I am kinda.. But honestly maybe it's a hint of jealously that I couldn't be the one that found a successful computer avenue since it's obviously my burning passion and desire since youth. So, thumbs up to MS I mean come on I can't hate them.. I've used Windows since 3.1.. and I even still use and love DOS on occasion.

I completely disagree. MySpace might allow you to completely customize and trash your layout.. but Facebook has applications and fun goodies that would take MySpace years to catch up on. Facebook wins in my opinion.

MySpace hardly cares anymore.. Facebook cares a lot.. MySpace is COLDFUSION! Facebook is PHP
