I HAVE GOOGLE

Jumps up and down, screams loudly, faienting with excitement - after 6 weeks of google withdrawl, pure stress, panic and whatever else, Google bot is now back trawling my site.

A site map and some repairs to the robots text and a bit of help from Google and the error is over.

Wanted to thank everyone who offered me help, advice and suggestions because it all really helped.

Thank you

Off to sit and watch admin all day long now.

Anne

Thank you!!!

Well apparently, Google had made some changes and not told the host. And the host had also made some changes and not told the dns? And as a result my site was fluttering about in white space. Google was trying to access but the host company were blocking the ip - how jolly civilised of them all -

i will refrain from talking about the lost revenue or how much it cost me to have sorted out - my webman has been very very kind but still, it is a cost i can't afford. The main thing is, my .co.uk address is now back right where it should be and hopefully in a few days time the bot will com and visit all of my lovely new meta tags and i will be sailing right back up where i belong.

One good thing to come out of it though was meeting all the lovely, kind and helpful people on this forum ;-) I learned so much more than i expected to and had a good laugh along the way.

Downside is, if my sales rise again, i will be too busy to come and chat as much i have been doing

Only i can't get away from you all cause i am bombarded with emails each time someone posts in any thread that i posted in - wish i knew how to turn that off

thank you!!!

Anne

There were other people chatting in webmaster tools too who had the same problem - some got a result last week and google admitted that it was an error on their part But a few of us continued with the problem -

My host had been contacted and whilst i think that maybe Google should update host companies when they deliver a range of new ip's, the host companies - as they are being paid to provide a service, should really be on top of changes - especially where such an important factor like Google is concerned.

I am not sure if the other businesses were with the same host as i am but it stands to reason that if we were having the same problem that many other people were having the same problem? And i know i am dense when it comes to understanding all this stuff BUT how could a hosting company NOT know that there was some error for the last 6 weeks?

Someone said that it should be the responsibility of Google - i tend to disagree to an extent - not sure what other people think about this. One of the people on the google forum was quite upset at Google but as someone pointed out to me, we do not pay Google for a service, they do what they do for my business free of charge, they have no responsibility to me - as a paying company to the host company, i do expect a full service and for EVERYONE to be able to access my website unless i personally block them.

I am more upset because twice the host company said it was nothing to do with them and my webman trusted their explanations and it was only after a lot of work on his part that the propblem was resolved. Not forgetting the hundreds of hours i have spent trying to find a solution.

How can something so simple go wrong? Just wondering how many other people were affected by this?

Thank you

Anne

It's because of their disinterest...

It's something like:
- How many clients do we have?
- 100.000
- And how many register monthly?
- 50.
- Ok, so there's nothing wrong if we lose 20 clients, because in a month will get 50 others.
- Yes, sir!
- Good, so keep doing what you're doing. (that is NOTHING)
- Yes, sir!

That was a slightly changed version of a short story that a friend of mine (who was working in the branch) has told me.

Sadie, if your host doesn't meet your expectations, find one that does care about its clients.

Any suggestions Costin?

There should be a "which" report on suitable hosting companies.

I will discuss this with my webman because when you put it like that, it is rather upsetting.

Thank you.

When having an e-commerce web site like you have it does matter where is hosted. The reason is explained in my post above: disinterest.

With that in mind, try first to establish a contact with the hosting company, find out as much as you can about it and then decide if you want to go for it or not.

Not always the cheapest is the bestest.

Thank you - i didn't choose the web host and being honest until very recently i didn't even know what a web host wasand actually i am still not 100% sure what one is - i just know that they are part of the process of having my site show on the net.

I wonder if i should ask everyone who their host is? Or a general which host is best question.

Thank you for your advice.
