Google Punishes Site For Selling Links - Not

Jim shares a few ideas on what he thinks of Google's anti-paid link campaign.

In my experience the only thing I’ve ever seen from google, as far as effect of selling links, is that Google may block your site from passing Pagerank. Doesn’t hurt your site one bit, you’ll rank the way you always would….Google just don’t count your link love you give to other sites.
Google does have a problem if they whack high profile, authoritative sites. This may distort the link graph.

Ideally, they'd want to evaluate and score each link separately.

If Jim is right I am wondering how can we distinguish between a blocked site (from passing PR) and a "normal" site? This is especially concerning for someone that wants to advertise its site.

That's really a big problem if Jim is right.

That's true. I have seen it with many sites which sell links. Their rankings are still the same or even better. Without any punishment.
