How To Write A Good Meta Description

Who cares, right?

However, this one comes from the horses mouth. Google Webmaster Central Blog provides some tips.

The quality of your snippet — the short text preview we display for each web result — can have a direct impact on the chances of your site being clicked (i.e. the amount of traffic Google sends your way). We use a number of strategies for selecting snippets, and you can control one of them by writing an informative meta description for each URL.

I write my meta description much like I would write an Adwords Ad, because it's all about reeling them in.

I am not an expert at this.. but still I feel you meta description should include a good and very carefully crafted 2 - 3 sentences briefing about your website. The art here is to embed your crucial keywords related to your site in this description..

Meta description should be appealing like adword and should have keywords into it. The more the keywords the more the chances of better rankings.

As we're in the Google forum, nope, that's wrong. The description tag is not used by Google for ranking purposes. I'll show you. From the V7N.com homepage description tag, I'll paste this:
Learn how to create and market a website professionally on the Internet

I'll put it in quotes for the Google search - so we're looking for exactly that phrase:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%22...f&start=0&sa=N

No V7N.com in those results.

Google haven't used the description tag for ranking for some years now.

As has been said, use the description tag to get people to click on your listing in the SERPs - sure, stick a keyword or phrase in to establish relevance in the eyes of the surfer, makes 'em more likely to click - and don't forget other engines use description for ranking - MSN doesn't use it, Yahoo and Ask do use it for ranking.

I agree...try to stick a keyword or 2 in there, but make it relevant and appealing. Maybe I'm wrong but I also use the same approach for the title.
