<h1> tags
hi all,
I am currently working on a new site and I have this little question for u guys/girls out there.
Let's say I have some text in a paragraph, and inside the <p></p> tag I place an <h1></h1> tag....does this give the text in the <h1></h1> tag more importance to google?
Basically I want to give emphasis to the company name in the site - the name is in the paragraph.
Thank you all!
Andre

It will, but only slightly. On page elements are probably not the way to boost your google ranking. Anchor text is the way to go.

I agree - also andregenovese, consider that on topic sites that link to your site that use your optimised anchor in thier link text - weighs more than off topic sites that link to you with optimised anchor text, i know this is the basics, but i'll say it incase you don't know this..

Gold, I know that is the conventional wisdom, but can you offer any proof or evidence? A lot of us think that today Google is only using anchor text and it doesn't matter a damn what the theme or content of the page is.
Now I believe that Google would like to evaluate the anchor text against the content or theme of the page on which it is placed, but I don't think they are doing so today.

I have found that since I need users to find me from all search engines, I need to optimize pages for all of them at the same time.
Anchor text, Headings, title tags, titles for tags themselves, description; all the standard stuff still applies. So any keyword that you desire to stand out on your page should be an H1. Google may not care, but other search engines do or may........
