If you search as site: www.mysite.com/* you will notice only 143
pages which Google has in main index. Other pages are likely to be in the
Index which was erstwhile marked as Supplementary.

those are not just internal links, if you look at it closely you may find they are backlinks included with your internal links.
I just did a check and you have 590 mentions, and as I suspect many of them are where you url is listed or has a link mentioned using your url
I seed my backlinks this way many times to see if google is picking up the backlinks and its famous for not showing them to you with the link:
So you need to investigate each page and see where the url you typed in is being displayed

You can increase links on google by submitting your link to related directories, forum posting, article submission and social bookmarking.

i think there could be some kind of criteria for a page to be listed as your backlink. still can't figure it out yet.

I tend to disagree..Google shows just some of your backlinks in order to prevent your competition from finding too much about you and in order to prevent bots from scraping their content (we all know what happened to the MSN/Live link command)

well if that so that would be great. so no need to do research on google backlink to figure out the criteria. but still wonder if that the case is putting just one backlink would still giving away confidential information?

Why popular sites dont submit to directories
I also notice this too, I been checking backlinks for five biggest free classified sites, And i cant find any of this site have ever submit to any directories. All i see blogs and media advertising. So popular sites dont see any value at web directories.
