Just getting older gets credit?

It will be almost a year, since I launched my website. I am just wondering if being on the web longer gets some PR credit. Ok, a year isn't that long, but does how long a website is indexed in Google reflect PR in any way?

pagerank is measured on backlinks, just because a site has been up for a year doesnt give you any advantage.

In that year you should have been building backlinks by the thousands, then you wouldn't worry about if google gives you extra pagerank for being on the web a year as you would have a top PR anyway

Well, I heard some people were saying that old websites like university websites generally have very high PR because they are old and they've been on the web for many years. Maybe it's just because ... they have many backlinks(including from within their websites)? And nothing to do with how old these websites are?

No, they have better PR because they have had more time to accumulate more links.

We have done couple of sites without any link buldings - there was no need, they were just the department's websites. They got initial link from the faculty and I doubt very much that anybody else linked to them. Anyway all went slowly from GPR 0 to 3 in one unit a month.

also besides backlinks your site probably has pages than it did when you launched it, and if those pages are interlinked then your pr will be higher

Age does not increase pagerank directly, however, it is natural that while your site ages, it gets more inbound links and a better internal link structure

The site is probably too small for any internal GPR. But yes, maybe some crazy student linked to it.
