I think they're just arbitrary choices. They mean nothing significant.

Well, actually it's "googol". It all started with a misspelling.

Each letter is a different color to represent all different components. Red signify a sense of integrity and passion

If a company uses a color, chances are it uses it for a very specific branding purpose.

Hi, I accidentaly found both this post page and a google first hw photo gallery in the same google(by the way...) search page.

in the homemade disk box, the colours of the "lego bricks" (sorry for the italian-like translation of the toy) are the same of google brand.
It's not sure, but i mean it can't be a combination of events.

The current official Google logo was designed by Ruth Kedar, and is a logotype based on the Catull typeface.

The first doodle was designed in 1999 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin after attending the Burning Man Festival. Subsequent logos were designed by an outside contractor, until Larry and Sergey asked then-intern Dennis Hwang to design a logo for the Fourth of July (American Independence Day) in 2000. Hwang has been designing the logos ever since.

Didn't find any reason as to why those particular colors.

Whatever the colors mean, the Google looks nice and makes me feel confident about using it — that's basically all that counts, as far as I'm concerned.

I have no idea what google logo says. I think it is just the creativity of designer.
