Talking Why does Google do this "dance" ?

Hi Guys,

Wonder if anyone can give me any ideas on this.

When I publish a new Squidoo it appears in Google searches (for main keywords) after a couple of days usually within the first 4 pages

Then within another day or two it totally disappears! -well within the first 30 pages anyway(I stop compulsively checking after that lol!!)

Then after approx a week to 3 weeks afterwards it reappears again usually within the first 3 /4 pages.

It happens to other people I know as well. Its a bit disconcerting. Just part of Googles mystery to me...I am curious as to why this happens and if there is anything I can do about it?

Thank you

Changes and updates are regularly done by Google, normally data updates are within 3 to 4 weeks so this one frequently happens.

I totally agree to you: The sites are sometimes down. You just have to wait.

redspace is on the right pathredspace is on the right path
IMO i think because it is shown in different pages of squidoo. perhaps new lense link are put in higher rank page and if your lense's rank stay high for that keyword then you will on that page. when your lense's rank decrease you could go down to other low rank squidoo pages.

Thank you for your reassurance and info guys. Its good to know its normal

I guess its just a matter of publishing then expecting a little wait before it becomes more stable. I'm glad its not anything I'm doing wrong.

I try to go for good content I hope is useful and updates every so often.

Updates shouldn't really be the cause since more data is being added to the original data, the search updates take place all the time. It is just updated in the public database once in 4 - 6 weeks which is the cause of the "Dance"

in my experience, its a normal thing that the site sometimes disappear on SERPs especially in Google because they are updating. just be sure to regularly update the site and be patient.

This happened to me also. I got crazy wondering why I'm way far when I was on the 2nd page the other day. But I guess, Google is really updating 'cause I see my site back again on the 2nd page.

Sites that appear on the first page of Google for good keywords are constantly working, evolving, and promoting to keep their top spot. Squidoo has a lot of weight with google, therefore an initial page may get preferential treatment, but after that....no more of the working, evolving, promoting... Why should it remain on top?

You guys are great! I am learning a lot from this forum Yes I have noticed Squidoo lenses do very well with Google initially and I agree its important to keep updating, promoting etc.

Just seemed strange to me that the drop in pages from say 2 to past 30 occured within 2 days of the lens being published then reappeared high up again a week or so later even if I did nothing to it. However from your comments I am understanding more. Got to learn to enjoy "dancing " with Google!and you're right -to be patient.

I think its good practice to update regularly and to keep the original content updated, fresh and useful not just for Google but for visitors too...
